Spider Veins
Right after pregnancy, you decided to get a fresher look and checked your wardrobe for your favorite mini skirt. You were about to wear it out for dinner with your husband when you found out that you couldn’t wear it anymore. You notice that there were some puffy blue and red veins at the back of your legs and thighs which weren’t there before you got pregnant. You consulted your doctor and found out that those red and blue veins were actually Spider Veins.
So what are Spider Veins? How can we get them? And how do we get rid of them?
Spider Veins look like varicose veins but shouldn’t be mistaken as them. Spider veins might have the same color as varicose veins but they are smaller compared to them. These types of swollen veins come closer to the skin and can spread over a small or large area throughout the skin. Spider veins are not only limited to appear on the legs but in some cases may also appear on the face.
Like various veins, spider veins also come with pain. The pain intensities range from stinging routine soreness to excruciating pain. The pain intensities will likely depend on the size of the swollen veins. You will have more soreness and discomfort from the larger veins in contrast to the smaller ones.
Spider veins can emerge on both men and women, but it usually appears on women, especially in their child-bearing years. Female Hormones are a major factor which has something to do on the emergence of spider veins in women. Aside from this, your family background also has a big say on this. If spider veins run in the females within your family, chances are you will also be getting them. Other contributing aspects are going through puberty, taking in birth-control pills and going through old age.
If you are bothered by the spider veins on your legs then you might want to visit your doctor. He may advise you to get a change in your lifestyle to prevent more spider veins to appear on your legs. If your type of job requires you to be up on your feet for long hours a day, then your doctor may suggest for you to wear a support hose. This will put a stop to the growth of unnecessary veins on your legs. Your doctor might also suggest for you to start a more balanced diet to keep your weight at bay. Proper exercise is also needed to keep your weight at a standard level. Also, you might want to swap your high heels for more comfortable shoes once in a while.
However, for more severe cases of spider veins, doctors may perform sclerotherapy. In this is method, medication is injected to the vein so that it will become smaller and less noticeable. Vein stripping is also one popular surgical procedure that involves making incisions on the area to remove the problematic veins from the legs.
It is very important for you to consult your doctor first for whatever treatment you wish to get. Have a discussion on the different risks that is included when getting any surgical procedure. Moreover, think things thoroughly before deciding on anything.
